Description:The annual Grinnell College Innovator for Social Justice Prize honors innovators who have demonstrated leadership in their fields and who show creativity, commitment, and extraordinary accomplishment in effecting positive social change. Nominations are open to US citizens and nationals of other countries. The program aims to attract nominations across a wide range of fields. Past candidates have spanned a diverse array of social issues, including childhood education, literacy, youth arts, youth services, childrenís mental health, hunger relief, environmental issues, violence prevention, and many others. No affiliation with Grinnell College is required.

Self-nominations are not allowed. However, nominators and nominees are encouraged to collaborate on the nomination materials to create the strongest possible application for the prize. Two individuals who are working collaboratively on a project may be nominated together, although each individual must meet the eligibility and criteria requirements to be considered.

Nominators are encouraged to carefully review the award criteria, explanations, and examples for support in completing their nominations. Of particular importance is an essay that makes the case for the nominee. The nomination form is available online and must be submitted using the online system. Nominations are not accepted by email or fax.
Eligibility:Public, Private, Charter, Other (including homeschool, 501 (c)(3) organizations)
Award(s):Winners are awarded $50,000 each and $50,000 to an organization committed to the winnerís area of social change.
Deadline(s):Nominations are accepted July 15 through October 9, 2017.
