Description:The Association for Science Teacher Education (ASTE) is an organization with a mission to promote excellence in science teacher education through scholarship, collaboration, and innovation. ASTE is an international association of science teacher educators, scientists, science coordinators and supervisors, and informal science educators who prepare and provide professional development for teachers of science at all grade levels.

The Award for Innovation in Teaching Science Teachers seeks to encourage the development and dissemination of new designs for courses and curricula, new instructional methods or approaches, and other types of innovations in the preservice or in-service education of teachers of science. Manuscripts may deal with practices for the preparation of elementary, middle school, or secondary teachers. The ASTE bases its selection of the award-winning manuscript on evidence of effectiveness, clarity of communication, research or theory base, possibility for replication or expansion, and response to recognized weaknesses.

Current ASTE members are eligible to nominate manuscripts. All manuscript authors must be ASTE members. Nonmembers are encouraged to apply and are provided time to join ASTE. The manuscript must be submitted blind; all author names and affiliations must be removed. Nominations must be submitted online.
