Description:The Amgen Foundation awards grants to support science education at the national and local levels. The foundationís funding priorities fall into two main categories:
ē Teacher quality and professional development in mathematics and science: comprehensive programs that enhance the quality of mathematics and science teachers entering the classroom, and support teachers with meaningful professional development opportunities that have a positive impact on student achievement.
ē Pivotal hands-on science experience: programs that provide students and teachers with opportunities for inquiry-based and hands-on learning experiences that significantly impact studentsí excitement about science and scientific careers.

Eligible grantees are qualified nonprofit organizations and may include public elementary and secondary schools, public colleges and universities, and public libraries within the United States and Puerto Rico. Applicants are limited to one grant request per year.

The application process requires a Letter of Inquiry, which is provided online as a standard form and must be submitted via the Amgen Foundationís online system. There is a checklist for completing the Letter of Inquiry form. Based on the Letter of Inquiry, an applicant may be invited to submit a full proposal. The grant application also is available online and submitted via the online system. The Amgen Foundationís review committees meet quarterly to review grant inquiries and proposals.

Award(s):Awards range from $10,000 to more than $1 million, depending on program scope and need.
Deadline(s):Letters of Inquiry and grant proposals are accepted year-round.
