|Description:||The Discovering the Outdoors Field Trip Grants support Indiana students in visiting state parks and reservoirs for purposes of learning about Indiana’s fish, forest, wildlife, and natural habitats, as well as the state’s history and culture represented in its natural places. Field trips must have a purpose designed to make science, social studies, or other relevant curriculum connections. The grants program is open to Indiana educators in public, private, parochial, home schools, and to students in kindergarten through grade 12.|
Each field trip must include a minimum of 15 students and involve an experience with an interpretive naturalist at the site such as a hike, talk, or other program. Field trips must be scheduled for the following school year (2013 to 2014) and take place between September 1 and June 1. Grant funds may cover transportation, program fees, and applicable materials. Food costs for a field trip are not eligible for funding.
The grant application is available to print from the website. Note that it requires specification of the state park or reservoir to be visited, a brief justification for why the grant funds are needed, the field trip purpose, curriculum goals, anticipated outcomes, copies of any pretrip and post-trip planned activities, and a budget. Completed applications must be mailed to the contact address and postmarked by the deadline. Applications will not be accepted by email or fax.
