Phone: 800.776.0188 ext. 265 (Toll-free)
|Description:||Earthwatch offers fellowships to classroom teachers from all subject areas in kindergarten through grade 12 to take part in field-based science and environmental research projects. To be considered, a teacher must demonstrate interest in natural and cultural conservation, sustainability, and lifelong learning. Educators should demonstrate enthusiasm for collaborating with a team of teachers from diverse backgrounds and expertise, interest in environmental issues and how scientific research is conducted, commitment to engaging their students and community inside and outside the classroom, and a desire to improve environmental or science education.|
Educator fellowships are awarded through a competitive application process. Candidates are considered based on available funding and application quality. Fellows are assigned to projects according to their interests, skills, and availability based on expedition dates, as well as specific project needs and grant restrictions. Each year, Teach Earth identifies projects for its program. Recently, teachers had the opportunity to study the impact of climate change in the cloud forest of Ecuador, in the desert of Arizona, and at the Arctic’s edge in Canada.
To apply for an Earthwatch educator fellowship, teachers must first complete the Educator Fellowship Interest Form or be nominated through the Teacher Nomination Form, which are available online. Qualified applicants are then invited to complete an application.
