Description:The Herb Society of America (HSA) Grant for Educators is awarded annually to promote the knowledge, use, and delight of herbs through learning experiences. The grant is open to a wide audience, including both formal and informal teachers at all educational levels. Grant projects must enhance herbal education in school systems, communities, or any public forum (electronic or in person); and require learning goals and a means for measuring the educational outcomes. The grant is not intended to support activities that normally occur without special funding, such as the development of a college course or publication. Projects may not promote herbs for medicinal purposes. Projects previously funded by an HSA grant are not eligible for additional funding.

Grant funds may be used for supplies, materials, and consumable products for herbal education projects, beyond the usual garden activities; or to deliver existing educational programs in a significantly different manner or to a larger target audience. Among funding restrictions, the grant may not be used as starter (seed) financing for a project; for computers or other equipment upgrades; or for garden construction, planting, or maintenance.

The application is available to download online or may be requested by writing the contact address. The application proposal includes four components: completed application form, a statement of qualifications for the applicant or team leader, project description, and a budget. All prepared proposal materials must be typewritten; handwritten proposals are not accepted. Applications must be submitted by the deadline. Grant recipients will be announced in April. The grant is for a period of one year.
