Description:The International Reading Association (IRA) Award for Technology and Reading honors educators in grades kindergarten through grade 12 who are making an outstanding and innovative contribution to the use of technology in reading education. Nominees must be members of the IRA and must be educators who work directly with ages 5 to 18 students for all or part of the working day.

Members of the IRA Technology, Communication, and Literacy Committee judge entries. There will be one grand-prize winner and up to nine US regional winners. Educators who work in public, parochial, or private elementary or secondary schools in the United States, Canada, and other countries (including US territories and APO schools) are eligible for regional awards. All entries are eligible for the grand prize.

The application must include a program description of the ways technology has been used to improve the reading and literacy abilities of students. The program description must include the following: a broad overview of the program and its goals, student population, technologies used, learning activities performed by students, and results achieved. The program being described must be complete as of the date of the application. No programs planned for future implementation will be accepted. Entries incorporating any brand of computers, operating systems, software applications, and other technologies, such as TV or video, are acceptable.
